Greetings Humanitas community, I really like it when I have the opportunity to address an interesting topic thanks to the initiatives that are carried out here, this week is a slightly freer topic, since it consists of talking about those wise words that have been important in our lives , I would like to invite @chacald.dcymt to participate
Los 3 filtros de Sócrates // The 3 filters of Socrates
When I studied the Bachelor of Fine Arts at the university, we began the first semester addressing aspects of the ancient age, knowing that most of the literature that is obtained in this regard is from Western art, much of what was learned corresponded to the Greek and Roman civilizations , this involves not only the arts, but also knowledge of mythology and philosophy, also in the following semester we also saw the subject of Aesthetics of Plastic Arts, where we again reviewed aspects of ancient philosophy, I had a teacher who even started the class making us read some of Seneca's letters, that's why it was common for me to randomly find different publications related to these topics on the web, one day I found a story or anecdote attributed to Socrates, but there is no proof that it is true, it is say, possibly it is an invented story with Socrates as a character, but when I read it I felt how these wise words will remain They were forever in my life and would accompany me to make decisions.
On the Internet you can find many articles where this anecdote appears, some tell him the 3 filters of Socrates, paraphrasing the story I tell you that a disciple of Socrates came to where his teacher was and told him in an agitated way that a friend of his was saying bad things about the teacher, Socrates immediately told him that before he told him he should submit his message to three filters, the first was the truth filter, he asked him if what he was going to tell him was true, the disciple could not give security, then he continued with the filter of goodness where he asked if what he was going to say was good, then the disciple said that what he was going to say was not good, then the teacher proposed the filter of usefulness, he asked him that if that information could be useful to him, if it was necessary for something, the disciple said that he did not know if such a report would be useful, for his part the teacher Socrates concluded that if what he was going to tell him could not be true, what that it was not good and that it was also something useless, then he better not tell him anything.
This story means a lot to me, because we are always surrounded by people who say they want our good and what they do is send us gossip that is of no use to us and that many times is not true, besides one makes the mistake of talking about more, being reckless or even repeating the same thing you have heard without thinking that it is better not to say anything, for example I always avoid these situations but I am not perfect and I know that like any human I have also made the mistake of not going through a I filter the things I've said, so even though I haven't been perfect I try to use the filters from that moment on.
Many people also use the phrase "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything", which would be the same as the second filter, that of kindness, but it also happens that the third filter is, in my opinion, the least used by people, because some people, even knowing that what they say is not good or true, forget that it is also something that is not useful, it does not benefit anyone to say or repeat gossip, it is wasting time or causing another person to waste it.
Also, I believe that the world would be better if people used filters in every aspect of our lives, this would avoid personal, work problems and even in interpersonal relationships of friendship or partner, let's make the chain of bad comments, false information and gossip cuts us off 🥰 I hope these words of wisdom will serve you who read me
